Shadow's Talon is nice when it happens, but could be replaced (although it is nice against other Embassy decks, just because it gets the +1FV and that can make an otherwise tied duel in to a win for you), and in fact probably will be with a BtD update.

Of course, that doesn't help with this weekend's Kotei. :P

If you want to pull it, then I'd recommend dropping in some more Breeder meta. Probably a 3rd Wall of Honor, and in the list above a 3rd Claw and Shell.

Nice build and nice report :)

Congratulations for your top4, this weekend we have Granada Kotei (Heraclio & me) but seems I'm going to play this deck with some new ideas (I'm scared becouse Crane is doing pretty well and people will bring a lot of meta against this builds).

Did Shadow's Talon work well for you? The worst thing about this deck is "the dead hand" (something like 1 hamstrung 1 enought talk 1 shadow's talon 1 peaceful discourse 1 taxing the scum against a military deck without dishonored peeps... Good cards but wrong timing!) and Shadow's Talon doesnt help with that. Dimas Miura (another good old fellow who plays crane from Spain) played Shadow's Talon with a similar build, and he loved it, but Heraclio and me thinks it can put you in a difficult position.

I'm going to play a very similar fate-build without magistrates + some specific cards like delayed conflict and prayer for guidance and heavy boxable dinasty sided like Hideo/Omori/Ayano as "core personalities".

Nice report, hope I can make a top4 too! :D

Honestly the biggest problem is having no one to play with in person. EE is something I wanted to play through, but now I'll miss it entirely.

3 years is a long time, but we'll see.

As Dare points out Crane as it stands now (and I note our top decks are apparently honor dueling splashing dishonor for extra control) can beat dishonor. So overall the situation is fine.

However my concern is that the IH comments about design direction prove true that there will be a real problem in EE. I don't want to see Crane players struggling for another 2 years because of a design direction that can still be affected now.

It isn't dire, but it is a concern worth noting. Just like it was worth noting the change in Dynasty flow at the start of CE was going to favor blitz and dynasty based decks heavily. It isn't irreparable over time but could make the start of EE problematic for a lot of people given the control nature of most dishonor decks.

John,
I'm not sure how many other posters can say that they've stayed the night in your basement and met your wife and your beautiful girls!
You have done so much for the Crane community and for the card game that sadly many will never know or understand. Thank you for all the years of dedication and determination, duty and courage that you have had for the Crane and its' storyline.

I hope that one day I can meet you again, and perhaps that L5R will return to awesome enough to entice you to return. We needed you in the past to give the Crane heroes and trinkets. There will certainly be a void with you gone.

Your sword awaits you when you return!

Stuff like this doesn't make me any more eager to get back into CCGs, and L5R in particular. I still love the basic design philosophy behind the game, but it seems like it's always off-kilter somehow.

I know I posted in that original thread, but I thought I'd point something out here. Excluding EE, just looking at the current environment post-TDOW, Nearly every competitive Crane deck (and there's a surprising number of them) has the means of beating dishonour more times than not.

I dont see a top tier deck for crane outside Embassy. There's no way you can beat an Embassy deck with a build like this, and I have some doubts about what can this deck do against a lion deck with big weapons (unwavering, countermove + big items) or phoenix navalry (all those shugs water + cavalry + naval ... ouch!).

Also, in every heavy-battle deck I tried, I always want to have 3 Reinforce the Gates on it. Both actions are pretty good, and you dont run a single low-focus card, so you dont need to worry about focus.

Sorry about my English, I'm spanish and not used to write on blogs or forums ^^; Keep with reports about koteis, they're great!

The Impromptu Weapons were ok. They helped me cross a turn earlier in one game, but I don't think I would have had an issue winning without them either.

If I wanted to retool the Dynasty a bit and include a faster honor engine and Kakita Takashima, I'd keep them. As it is I'm already looking to replace them, along with the Part the Waves, with some more proactive Battle actions, preferably something to help generate some more Force when the deck has to switch to Military against Breeder, Honor and Dishonor.

How awesome were the Impromptu Weapons?
I still think they are a terribad idea, but I want to hear from someone that's played a kotei with them in a deck.
